dLibra 2.5

The most important changes in version 2.5 of the dLibra system are described below.

Changes in Editor and Administrator application

  • General changes
    • User interface of editor application has changed  ImageAs shown on the picture above user interface has been splitted into three main parts:
      1. Directories tree – this is the library structure (directories and group publications)
      2. Elements list – list of elements which are contained in selected element (ie. directory content, publication content, publication files, etc.)
      3. Editor panel – presents information about element selected on the elements list

      Details about the new user inferface can be found in user guide (section 3.1 “Editor’s Application main window”).

    • User type  ImageIn version 2.5 of the dLibra system types of users has been introduced. These types differ users in respect of logging into the system and managing own account. Description of each type:
      • Administrator/editor – dLibra system user, can log in to any application (including editor and administrator application), usually his/her task is administration of the dLibra system or library content creation
      • Reader – WWW user, cannot log in to editor and administrator application, can log in on WWW pages and modify information concerning his/her account
      • Reader with restrictions – has the same possibilities as the Reader excluding possibility to modify his/her account
    • User interface language  Image From version 2.5 it is possible to change user interface language (changes language of labels, menus, etc.). All available languages are listed in “View”->”Language” menu.
    • Password change  Image Every user may change his/her password using “Change password…” option from “Program” menu.
    • Logging in  Image During the login procedure system infroms user about current activities.
    • Removing characters during import from MARC 21  From version 2.5 characters which are to be removed during the import are defined using regular expressions. Details can be found in user guide (appendix A “MARC import”).
  • Changes in editor application
    • Saving RDF file  In new publication wizard in the second step “Save RDF file” check box enforces saving bibliographic description in RDF format when switching from step two to step three (previously it was saved after publication was successfully created). Thanks to this mechanism even if there are problems with publication creation (ie. internet connection failure) the bibliographic description will not be lost.
    • Exporting bibliographic description to RDF format  Image Using the “Export RDF…” button on the bibliographic description panel it is possible to export current (displayed on the panel) bibliographic description to a file in RDF format.
    • Actual edition  From version 2.5 there is no “Actual edition” element. Creating new edition basis on the newest files is possible by selecting “New edition…” option on publication (select publication, click right mouse button and select “New edition…” option).
    • Errors on editor’s panel  Image If the user provides wrong information on the editor’s panel and applies changes an error dialog will appear (shown above). Double click on the error to go to the error location.
    • Remaining time to finish operation  Image When new publication is created remaining time to finish operation is displayed.
    • “Find…” option  Image When “Find…” option from “View” is selected search window appears. The search window allows user to find elements basis on bibliographic description. This mechanism works in the same way as the search mechanism on WWW pages.
    • “Go to…” option  Image “Go to…” option from “View” menu allows user to find element basis on its identifier. User selects the type of element to find, types the identifier of element to find and presses “Go to” button. If element is found it is presented on elements list.
    • Removing edition, files, file’s version  From version 2.5 it is possible to remove edition, file and file’s version. Edition can be removed when it is not the only edition of publication and it is not published. File’s version can be removed when it is not the only version of a file and it is not assigned to any edition. File can be removed when none of its version is assigned to any edition. Additionally, in advanced mode, “Remove redundant files…” option is available for “Publication files” element. Using this option user may remove all redundant files (files which none of versions is assigned to any edition) and file’s versions (not assigned to any edition).

Changes in www application

  • Extended searching capabilities Group and planned publications’ description can now be searched. Image
  • “Remember me on this computer” It’s now possible to login only once to your www account (thanks to cookies). Image
  • Password recovery mechanism There is a possibility to recover lost/forgotten password. This new function introduced constraints on user email uniqueness. Now user email have to be unique – you can’t create few accounts with one email address.  Image
  • XHTML Dlibra web pages are now XHTML 1.0 Transitional compilant
  • Changes in news editor  News are displayed only in one selected language (exactly as on the main page, you can change language of course).  Image
  • User account  Changes on user account page. When user has got appropriate rights, he can launch editor’s application from www. Image
  • ZIP archive PATH changed ZIP archives with publications content are now available under separate address /zipContent. Previously ZIP archives vere available under the address used for publication content – /Content.
  • Configurable number of elements diplayed in main page components In the /webapp/WEB-INF/components.xml file there are new entries allowing to specify number of news, exhibitions and recently added publications taht shoul be displayed on main page.
  • Changes in page layout 
    • Exhibition view  Image

    • Simple search  General search was echanged by Simple Search. Image

Changes in dLibra server

  • The way of handling periodical tasks has been changed The periodical tasks are realized now using Quartz library. Configuration of these tasks has been moved from server.xml file to jobs.xml file. Configuration of task period is based on Cron expressions.
  • Configuration and binary files are splitted into sub-services dlibra-server.jar file, responsible for server tasks realization, has been splitted into separate .jar files – each for particular server service. Configuration file specific for particular service has been moved to conf directory of particular service directory.
  • The way of preserving password has been changed Server administrator is able to choose whether users passwords are to be stored in database as plain text or as password digest.
  • Mechanism for checking text consistency Every file sent on the dLibra server has its own checksum. Every night dLibra server checks part of files – checks if the current checksum is consistent with the checksum stored in database.
